1964 Jaguar D-Type Replica by Realm
Deemed better than the originals by Sir Stirling Moss and Jack Brabham, this early D-Type replica based off the 1955 Mike Hawthorn winning car and built by Realm engineering is a truly exceptional car and as unattainable as the originals may be, this car may be one of the closet substitutes you can get.
Historically renowned and recognised, the D-Type cemented its name in motorsport history for its dominance at Le Mans in the 50s, having achieved a remarkable three-time successive win streak after succeeding the also famous C-Type.
Offered here is a 1 of 71 made, Realm Engineering D-Type presented in the instantly recognisable British Racing Green which appears and drives exceptionally thanks to the very caring ownership of its current owner of the last 20+ years, having clocked only 5000 miles in its life. This car comes with a very extensive history file which covers the past 60 years of ownership, and has all the relevant documentation.
The world-renowned “Realm Chassis”, was constructed to the very highest of standards and features: the tried and tested, multi-tubular, steel-backboned, space-frame and strengthened chassis, featuring carbon-kevlar and composite, fire-retardant, lightweight, reinforced, steel-braced, fibreglass bodywork. The 5-speed manual “get rag”, all synchromesh, close-ratio gearbox, is coupled to a comprehensively rebuilt, 4.2 litre, straight six Jaguar engine, which has been fully-balanced, timed, ported and polished and then tuned using a dyno to produce in excess of 250 BHP, breathing through fully-balanced and tuned, re-conditioned, side-draft, triple Weber Carburettors.
The complete exhaust system has twin, black, side-exit enlarged bored-out pipes, in stainless-steel and emits a “throaty” roar, but still complying with all newly introduced, racing decibel limits. There is also a high-flow aluminium radiator, with a Kenlowe fan, as well as fully-adjustable front and rear suspension, to suit all different types of racing circuits or road endurance terrain.
The period 15” Dunlop Racing tyres are mated to the correct split-rim steel and alloy D-Type lightweight wheels, complete with polished chrome quick-release spinners, helping the car to deal with all types of different road/ track conditions and with the XJ12 Powerlok limited slip-differential and servo-assisted front brakes, all based almost exclusively on 1964 Jaguar running gear, unlike some of its rivals.
This car presents an amazing opportunity to own something almost as close as you can get to an original and is ready to relocate from its current residence in an extensive private collection of “record breaking cars”
