1935 Austin Light 12/4 Ascot Saloon
Offered here, AKF 325, is one of 750 “chrome radiator surround” model Austin 12/4 Ascots, first registered 29th April 1935 in Liverpool. This car has been looked after by its current owner since purchasing it in 2022, who has primarily used it for touring, including a 1500 mile trip around Northern Spain.
The current vendor went on to commission a large amount of work which included: a new radiator core, a new fuel gauge, a fuel pump overhaul, new HT leads and plugs, new coil, new points, rotor arm and condenser, LED side and brake lights, new rear springs, dynamo overhaul, new bushes, starter motor overhaul, new battery, bumpers re-chromed and 4 new tyre and inner tubes. Prior to the current ownership, the previous custodian put the Austin through an extensive mechanical restoration in 2017, with the engine and clutch assembly being completely rebuilt, costing near £9000.
The bodywork remains brilliantly maintained, with the black paintwork in a good condition still. The interior is also in a superb condition with some of it understood to remain original, including the headlining and blinds. The car also has the original owner registration booklet, along with the other Austin 12/4 booklets, including the handbook. There is a substantial amount of invoices and paperwork from the last 2 owners, including all the work that has been completed on it. It handles very smoothly, the gearbox is seamless and the suspension is very comfortable, making for a very enjoyable and pleasant driving experience. This Austin would be a fantastic start to any enthusiast’s entry to pre-war cars, or as an addition to any collection.
