1959 Austin Vanden Plas Princess DS7
We are excited to offer this remarkable Vanden Plas Princess DS7, one of only 175 hand-built examples produced between 1956 and 1959, making it the last of the line of the magnificent ‘Big’ Princesses and a fitting final chapter in Vanden Plas’s ambitious attempt to rival the finest luxury cars from Rolls-Royce and Bentley. This example is offered from The Great British Car Journey Museum collection, where for the last 5 years, it has been displayed as a marque of the British motoring industry.
The Vanden Plas Princess DS7 is powered by a magnificent 4-litre, six-cylinder engine developing 150 bhp, providing genuine 100 mph performance. This impressive power unit was also used by Jensen in their 420 series, further demonstrating the capabilities of these rare and highly engineered luxury cars.
Registered DGC 12B in 1959, this impressive survivor was cherished and fastidiously maintained for many years by Godfrey “Goff” Radcliffe, proprietor of a theatrical transport company. Following his ownership, the car passed through just one further custodian before joining the prestigious James Hull Collection, which later became part of The Great British Car Journey collection, where it has been maintained for the last 5 years. We are told that a lot of the exterior and interior remains wholly original, however we cannot warrant if the mileage shown is genuine. There is a number of invoices and paperwork within the history file covering its more recent history.
With its extremely limited production, provenance and originality, DGC 12B is almost certainly one of the best surviving examples of these extraordinary cars. It offers a rare opportunity to acquire one of the last and most significant of the ‘Big Austins’ and a truly exceptional piece of British motoring history.
