1985 Yamaha RZV500R
The Yamaha RZV500R served as a road-legal replica of the legendary YZR500 that Kenny Roberts won the 1983 world championship on, developed exclusively for the Japanese market, with a total number of 1600 ever being built. The Japanese variant became highly sought after due to many different features, the biggest one being its hand-welded aluminium frame, therefore weighing 10kg less than all other international models, the RD and LC variants. It also differed due to its aluminium handle bars and adjustable front forks. The bike’s main feature however, being the 499cc liquid cooled V4 2-stroke engine that really gives the bike its character, coupled with the 6-speed box.
This bike was originally delivered to Japan, having only ever done 9550 miles from new, retaining almost full originality apart from being repainted to display this stunning Carl Fogarty style, Loctite livery, and having Moto Jolly exhaust pipes installed.
It has just had a major service by Den Irvine, including having the brakes and carburettors refurbished last year, along with a new battery and serviced every year by Nick Anson at Brechin. The bike runs and rides brilliantly, starting on 2 kicks when cold, and 1 when warm. The bike comes with an MOT valid until the end of September and was fully serviced at the end of last year.
These Japanese delivered bikes are becoming much harder to source, due to their desirability amongst other variants from across the world, and for good reason. This example needs to be seen as it really is in a superb condition, both mechanically and cosmetically, with an exceptionally low, genuine mileage, making it the perfect opportunity for any 2-stroke or Grand Prix enthusiast. There is also a video available if requested. The sale is due to the owners collection growing too large.
