1964 Maserati 3500 GTI
The stunning Maserati 3500 GTI was Maserati’s first vehicle to be relatively largely produced. Following their racing success in the 50s, Maserati ditched the racing and decided it was time to focus on developing a new Grand Tourer. Artfully and elegantly designed by famous coach builder, Carrozzeria Touring, the 3500 wore aluminium panels, held by a tubular steel frame, giving it the beautiful appearance it has.
Powered by the excellently sounding and performing inline-6, deriving from the largely successful 350s race car. The later models were fed by fuel injection rather than carburettors, such as this one, making it one of the first production cars ever to start using fuel injection. As planned, this car established Maserati as one of the most exclusive and high performance car makers in the world.
This beautiful example presented for sale is only 1 of 4 RHD models currently in the UK and was one of the last 3 ever produced by Maserati. However, as Maserati were building the last 4, the factory had ran out of the 3500 chassis and didn’t have any available. Due to this, Maserati were forced to resort to using the Sebring’s chassis, therefore underneath this car has a completely different configuration to the standard 3500, with a more centralised exhaust system and different fuel tanks.
This car has recently come out of a 9 year full restoration process, undertaken by many specialists across the UK, returning it to its former glory and presenting it as if it were brand new. The engine was rebuilt by Maserati specialists, McGrath, and the body and interior work, completed by a widely respected garage in Ripley. Upon viewing it, the car appears immaculate due to the quality of craftsmanship and really couldn’t be in a better condition.
