1989 Rover Metro 1.3 L Clubman
The Metro on offer is likely one of the best surviving examples in existence, remaining completely unrestored with an incredibly low mileage of 24,200. The fantastic and clean condition of this example provides a testament to its careful and enthusiastic ownership over the years.
Finished in Oyster Beige, this Metro is presented in an exceptional condition throughout for a car of its age. The bodywork and factory paint show very little blemish, with all the original panels still pin-straight, and unlike the unfortunate majority of Metros that succumbed to the harshness of regular use, the underside remains very clean, with some of the original factory spot welds still visible. The only blemishes worth mentioning are a slight mark on the passenger door by the handle, and a scuff on the corner of the front bumper. It also hosts the factory fitted stickers including the tax disc holder, “Metro Got Me Going” sticker, and also the dealer fitted plates.
The interior was built to Rover’s opulent “L” specification, featuring even more Beige. There is very little evidence of wear throughout with the Zenith Fabric seats in Mink displaying very little use, and the original carpets have remained very well protected by the factory Rover mats. The dash is fitted with a digital clock, cigarette lighter and radio cassette, which all operate correctly. The boot hosts everything from the factory, including the original Rover luggage compartment organiser, spare wheel, and original toolkit. So well preserved, it is almost quite literally “stepping back in time”, as described by the owner.
Registered on the 9th November 1989 by Austin Rover main dealer, Quicks Parkside of Coventry, the car was first purchased by Mrs Jessica Arnold, paying £7,350 as shown on the original purchase invoice. The Metro resided there for 21 years, until being purchased by a Mr Ronald Taylor of the same address. In 2011 the car was then purchased by a Metro fanatic, Mr Jason Barnes, keeping it garaged alongside a varied collection of other classics.
This particular Metro is well known and renowned within the Metro Owners Club and is highly regarded by to a much respected Metro guru, Tom Morley, the owner of multiple concourse winning cars. In 2013, it was on the Metro Club stand at the NEC, and in 2018 it was awarded the best MK2 at the club awards. More recently it has been displayed at The Great British Car Journey Museum.
The substantial history file hosts a large folder of scrupulously filed service invoices and MOT certificates dated back to 1992. The full book pack which includes the service book also accompanies the car. Completing the history file is a merchandise brochure and Austin Rover ‘Individual Choice’ collection brochure along with spare keys with aerial pullers and printed DVLA ownership history.
The factory and dealer options includes: 4 speed automatic gearbox, Rover luggage compartment holder, Rover mats, and mudflaps.
